Seven hours in a plane....

I once sat on the tarmac at JFK for 4 hours. The best bit was that they showed us a film (Down with Love, Ewan MacGregor and Renne Zellwegger. If you ever get the chance, miss it) but they got a chance to return to the terminal, so stopped the film 1 hour and 20 mins in, right at the climactic scene.

This guy didn't even get to see 9/10 of a film, or any food. Luckily he had a video camera. I saw this on the Fallon blog last night, and they report 464 views. This morning, it has 13,438 views. Now, theoretically this is the beginning of one of those viral complaints that damage big companies so much and a great example of the power of the internet to get stories that companies otherwise ignore out there. Delta has a terrible reputation (Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport) but it's rare to get this kind of concrete proof. It will be interesting to track this story to see if it impacts Delta at all.

Travel 2.0

I wanted to share this website, but mostly this article, which is a lovely succinct summary of how technological advances are changing the face of travel websites and includes some best in class website examples.

What's particularly interesting is their comments on a set of new technologies called rich Internet applications (RIAs) which offer the promise of “why click through a set of screens at all?” to meet one's travel planning needs. Enjoy.

A Guide to the Worst Places on Earth - Newsweek Entertainment - MSNBC.com

I don't know what this type of content should be categorised as. It certainly blurs a lot of boundaries between news classification but it also makes me feel somewhat confused about 'User generated content'. A term that I think is rapidly losing any meaning it may have had when it was first coined.
