The simplest ideas work the best
Following Martin's entry about Cannes winners, Amnesty International won Gold in Cannes' Film Category with their 'signature' video. I just like the idea that something very simple can project a very strong message

Well, I've been a little quite of late and that's because amongst other things I was working on a pitch for the World Heart Federation - which we won! I'd love to take all the glory but it was a true team effort. The team here did a fantastic job and we start work for real next week on the strategy and design of the site.
You can check out their current site here http://www.worldheart.org and as we start work on the designs I'll keep you (TMW) up to date on how it goes. And so you know who WHF are, in a snapshot - they are the global charity “committed to helping the global population achieve a longer and better life through prevention and control of heart diseas and stroke.” They are made up of 189 medical societies and heart charities in over 100 countries and they want their website to be the central resource of credible information for all their members.
They also have interesting competitors. They work to lobby governments to get heart disease on the agenda and get global and local investment. So they compete with people like Cancer Research and Aids Healthcare foundation. The WHF just need to shout the loudest and to do so they need people on the ground around the world doing the lobbying for them.
It's a great chance to use some different technologies such as the mobile internet. Many of the members who need to access their resources are in under developed countries and don't have access to the wonderful worl of broadband internet. So we will have to design areas of the site to be accessible on their mobile phones whilst they are out in the field in the middle of Africa (for example).
Anyway, I'll get down off my soapbox now and let you all take a look at their site and stuff, leaving you with the thought that heart disease is the world's number 1 killer…
Charity DM agency Whitewater have just re-launched their main website as a blog powered by Moveable Type (the Six Apart software that also drives this blog).
Whilst I'm not sure that the technology is entirely suited to the purpose to which it has been put (the navigation and IA is a bit dodgy etc.), it does give the site a whole new dimension. They regularly post information regarding their work plus further info about the charity sector. As a result, their site has gone from being a flat site displaying corporate info, to a charity marketing information source that engages and invites interaction. A definite move forward for them, and cheap too!
