Wow!

Like everyone with a connection to marketing, I pay a disproportionate amount of attention to ads. Actually, a mate of mine told me that his mother once said, exasperated “You're the only person I know who stops reading the paper during the ads and starts reading it when the programme comes back on”

Anyway, it is rare to see something that makes you go “Wow!” but this ad, for United Technologies, of all people, stopped me in my tracks. (Excuse the lopsided scan). I have also seen it as a poster in the tube, which again, I love. The thing about the tube is that you generally have to hang around for a bit, and having something like this (or the Spaceman one!) to look at is great.

Even better, it is followed through on the website. It's a great example of someone showing us the joy in what they do. And I think the website demonstrates that joy of engineering. However, I hope they cleared it with Dorling Kindersley…

(I googled Dorling Kindersley and found this ship. Had to share…)

We did a mailing along similar lines a few years ago for RAF Altitude, where we sent an Airfix kit to third year engineering students.
